SUP
Stand up paddle boarding is a sport that can be enjoyed by all the family. It’s great fitness and lots of fun. We think it’s one of the best ways to explore the rivers of the UK or paddle in the mountains on reservoirs and lakes.
We have passionate coaches who are excited to teach you the basics and get you standing up and enjoying the sport. Once you’re up you can try a few different tricks and play some games to get you more confident on the board.
All our lessons will start with a 20 minuet lesson on dry land before jumping on the water and giving it a go. We have two fantastic locations on in Monmouth on the River Wye and on in the Brecon Beacons on Pontstcill Reservoir. Find out more below.
River Wye
The River Wye is one of the most beautiful places in the UK to paddle. You pass under old bridges and have open countryside to your left and right. It’s a great place to spot kingfishers, herrings and Cormorants and there are lots of places to jump in for a swim.
The river is a great place to learn to stand up paddle board. We have easy access to the river from Monmouth and are able to paddle upstream on a nice open part of the river to a lovely beach. Once at the beach we can hop off and stretch the legs. Play some games or have a bit of a swim.
After a bit of a play we can float back down learning new paddle techniques or just relaxing and enjoying the river.
Once you have the basics there are plenty of other beautiful stretches of river to enjoy and a river paddle is the perfect way to progress with this sport.
PONTSTICILL RESERVOIR
This is a beautiful place to learn to paddle. Tucked away in the Brecon Beacons it is truly magical. We have easy access onto the reservoir and a few different places to launch from. We will start the lesson with a on land demonstration before jumping on the water.
Once on the water we will be able to have a go at standing up and paddling around before we go for a paddle around the reservoir. Once the group has the hang of the basics we will show you how to move around the board and play some games which will give you more confidence when paddling.
After our paddle we will jump out and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee before departing home.
