Polo in Sunny Seville

When you land in Seville the heat hits you, it’s dry and pleasant and warms your bones. Instantly we were smiling and ready to start our adventure. Just a 20 minute drive and we were at our city centre hotel, with rooftop pool and bar and wonderfully comfy beds; we were off to a good start!

Seville slowly meanders through the day. We had arrived at the hotel at 5pm and lounged by the pool sipping cocktails until 9pm. We then slowly ventured into town where we poked our heads into the shops and eyed up the ice cream. The stunning cathedral lit up in the warm night and the clip clap of ponies hooves echoed in the background. We then met up with some of the other players and polo manager for delicious tapas and wine at around 11pm. This turned out to be the tune of the holiday.

The following day we were able to soak up the sun in the morning before heading out to find a delicious spot for lunch. We sat in one of the squares at tables with umbrellas that gently sprayed a refreshing mist of water over you. Over two hours we picked at the most delicious food, fresh fish, Spanish omelette and fresh mint tea. Even after this we had time to get back for a little siesta before heading out for polo.

The field is only 20 minutes from the centre of Seville. On an old olive farm stand the beautifully renovated Spanish estate with immaculate polo field at the front. All the ponies looked in fantastic condition and there were different ponies available for every level of player.

On the first day the heat hit us in the first game, coming off red faced but delighted, the play was of a good level but everyone was there to have fun. As there were 3 teams we played 2 chukkas against each team each day. Playing a full game against each team by the end of the 2 days.

After polo had ended we headed on back into Seville to enjoy dinner and wine. It meant our days were full and allowed us to experience the tourist side of seville and relax during the day while playing polo in the evening. A four day escape felt like a two week holiday.

Although there were winners and losers on the pitch everyone won off the pitch. We had an amazing opportunity to meet local players and experience the best of Seville. The fun, excitement and relaxation combined with fantastic people made this a trip to remember!
